Like a treasured memoire from yesteryear, the painted world of Pedro Garcia is suffused by a warm sepia which casts a honeyed glow over its faded faces. It is an existence of old-world charm, where gallant men and elegant ladies engage in a dance of courtly manners, amidst the serenades of able musicians and the whispers of attentive waiters in nocturnal ballrooms. Inspired by European modernist artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, some compositions are re-rendered to present tableaux of romantic whimsy. This inward longing for a past that never was sweeps its figures into giddy flights of fancy as they waft in their floating world.
Pedro Felix Garcia II graduated from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in España, Manila with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in Painting in 2001. With prizes from a number of prestigious art competitions, such as the Nokia, Shell and AAP (Art Association of the Philippines) Art Awards, he has joined several group exhibitions and will be holding his 10th solo. His works have been included in art fairs at Prague and the Netherlands, and he is presently completing his Master’s degree in Fine A
